Once you know where to find the settings, uploading custom emotes to Twitch is quick and easy. This guide will take you through the steps one by one.
What you need before you start
Make sure you have:
-
A Twitch Affiliate or Partner account
-
Emote image files ready
You need either:
-
Three square PNGs at 28x28, 56x56 and 112x112 pixels or
-
One square PNG file between 112x112 and 4096x4096 pixels and under 1 MB in size if you use Twitch's Auto-Resize feature.
Step 1: Open your Creator Dashboard
Log into your Twitch account and click on your profile picture in the upper right hand corner.
Choose Creator Dashboard.
Step 2: Head to the Emotes Section
In the left sidebar, navigate to:
Viewer Rewards → Emotes
This is where you find your subscriber emotes, follower emotes and other emote settings.
Step 3: Select an Emote Slot
You will see the number of slots you have for emotes, and the tiers.
Click an empty emote slot or an existing emote to replace.
Step 4: Upload Your Emote
Drag and drop your emote file to the upload area or click to choose it manually.
With Auto-Resize enabled, you only need to upload one PNG file. When you upload it, Twitch will automatically generate all the required sizes for the emote.
If you're uploading individual emote sizes, disable Auto-Resize and upload the 28x28, 56x56 and 112x112 files manually.
Fill in the name of the emote in the Emote Code box.
When everything looks right, click Upload Emote.
Depending on your account status and Twitch’s review process, your emote may be available right away, or it may need to be approved.
You're all set!
Your emotes are now ready for your community to use.
